Year 1 have been creating their own stories this term. They began their journey by walking to the local cinema to watch Tangled. Once we were back in the studio we began to talk through the pattern of the story so we could learn its structure, we did this by adding actions and pictures to the story so it was easier to visualise and remember. This is the stage where children imitate the story, through this familiarity and language development children can feel confident with the story pattern. The next part of the learning then builds on this foundation as children begin to play with the story language. We added time connectives and had a go at using stories in our play, this can be seen in puppet shows and sand play during the video. This build up in layers enables children to feel more confident when they begin to write their own stories, they can use their experience and rich language which is developed in their learning to have fun being writers. The children wanted to share their learning with their parents and friends and so came up with the idea to record video clips from the studio to share with an audience after school. We made popcorn and sold it during the evening and became super stars for the day!
