There is much talk surrounding the links between Art and Science and technology and over the last year at PCSA we have really demonstrated that being creative and being scientific are not mutually exclusive skills but can work well together.

Back in June our team of year 8 and 9 students were successful in winning an award at the GO 4 Set regional finals where they demonstrated their skills in designing an eco hotel. Following on from that we have decided that in 2019 we will be entering two teams in the Go 4 Set competition, this will begin in February and the teams will be working with mentors from Industry.

This year we were also successful in winning a bid to compete in the Lego Mindstorm Challenge. Angus has been working with twenty of our year 8 Students to design and program robots to undertake a variety of tasks. The teams will be competing in January and we look forward to being able to share news about this following the event.

Obviously we have now been noticed as keen and successful participants in this sort of activity as we have recently been invited by Plymouth University to enter the IET Faraday challenge at Plymouth University in January. This is an unseen challenge where eight of our year 8 students will be competing for a prize of £1000 and a place in the finals at Thorpe Park. We were really excited to be asked to compete in this as there are only six places available in Plymouth. Kelly will be accompanying the team and is really looking forward to it. We will have more information about this event in the new year.
