On the last Friday of term, a strange vision appeared over The Red House. A figure stepped over the side of the building, from the roof, and dropped to the pavement, four floors below. It was all the doing of some of our leadership students, as part of their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, they had arranged a charity abseil, raising money for Help for Heroes, which saw staff and students making multiple drops throughout the day!
The students carried out everything necessary to make this happen, under the supervision of staff, but entirely of their own doing. Having planned the activity, they then contacted all of the necessary people to make it happen, including our facilities manager and Your High Life, who carried out the abseil. Assemblies were held, where the students promoted their event, contact was made with Help for Heroes, and risk assessments were carried out. I’m not entirely sure which student was responsible, but they even managed to book the right weather!
Money is still coming in, but the total will be well into the hundreds, and could even approach a thousand pounds. An amazing feat, from a group of students who are starting to realise their full potential. Organising such a successful event is no mean feat, well done to all involved!
