Welcome to the Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) webpage for Millbay Academy.
At Millbay Academy, we know that excellent CEIAG underpins excellent learning – it raises aspirations, improves focus, supports good behaviour and so this means that it overarches all that the school does…So that our students do indeed learn together and achieve excellence through their school experience here.
Students at Millbay Academy are entitled to receive;
- impartial advice and information about all the options available, so that they understand what they involve
- support and guidance to help them make choices and complete a career plan for the future
- regular personal support or information on how well they are doing
- help to decide what to do when they leave their course, including further learning, training or employment
- a programme of careers education which helps them to develop skills and knowledge to make choices and the transition to work and learning
- the opportunity to be involved in making decisions about things that affect their learning
- an opportunity to learn about the world of work, and employment
Please see Millbay Academy’s Careers Policy HERE. The policy is in draft form due to the changes that are currently happening in the school.
To support the delivery of CEIAG to our students, we use the online platform Careerpilot. This offers progressive learning throughout the student’s schooling which they can record and take with them. The schemes of work and resources provided by this platform are written using the CDI (Careers and Development Institute) Framework. We also have a Next Steps South West In School Coordinator who ensures that students receive their offers working around aspiring to Higher Education. Millbay Academy is a Careers Hub School and receives support from an Enterprise Adviser as part of this agreement and regularly accesses the Give an Hour opportunity allowing the school to call on Employers across the City to support our careers related learning.
All CEIAG is delivered in line with the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks – these provide a recognised framework for improving careers provision within schools and underpins good careers guidance and informs Ofsted
Millbay Academy uses the Compass tool to analyse its careers related learning against the Gatsby benchmarks. The Careers programme is measured and assessed through a series of feedback from students, reports from external agencies and through analysing destination data.
Provider Access Agreement and Careers Programme
Please CLICK HERE to see our Provider Access Agreement – this is also a draft as changes are being made within the school. Please note that school access for external providers is not permitted at present due to current restrictions but that virtual presentations can still be relayed to students.
The Agreement includes an outline of the Careers Plan for our students year by year, with additional classroom based activities delivered through PSHE sessions and supported by Careerpilot and it’s resources. The Careers Plan is constantly monitored and evaluated to ensure that it is relevant and effective for our students.
