In Phase One, we are very excited to have introduced our new phonics and literacy programme ‘Word Play’!
Word Play is a brand new phase wide approach to literacy that we have introduced this term. It is a great opportunity for the children to mix with different year groups and engage in a range of literacy activities. Each morning, all children have a teacher led phonics lesson in groups and then they are able to choose from a range of Word Play activities, either in the small atrium or outside. Activities include story sessions, phonics games, speaking and listening, physical activities and writing/mark making. The children have loved finding new and exciting ways to challenge themselves and are really enjoying working alongside children from different year groups to develop their literacy skills.
It has been wonderful to see how excited and engaged the children have been about Word Play and we are really looking forward to continuing to develop this programme throughout the year.
