Public Art at Saltram
Last term a group of 6 year 7 & 8 students went to Saltram House as part of the Take a Part Project to plan and make a sculpture. We went four times and worked with National Trust staff, volunteers and an artist who we interviewed and selected for the project. Our artist was Anna and we made a carving of a tank on six 8-foot tall planks that were then placed vertically into the ground. We chose a tank because the 29th Division American Army were stationed there in World War 2 and some evidence still remains in the grounds of the house. As you approach the sculpture the image of the tank fits together. It is well worth visiting and you can get a map from the main house courtyard and shops. It was a great project and we all enjoyed the opportunity. Report by Sachin (Y8).
